Right after I was bragging on a local Facebook gardening page that we've already entered spring and hot weather was ahead, the winds began anew and the forecast now is for freezing nighttime temps for the next week!
The wind is so strong that a few tulips, despite being in the little courtyard, have had their petals stripped off! So now I wonder: Do I leave the rest and hope for the best, or get the scissors and make a bouquet?I have been told never to mix daffadowndillies with other flowers, as their sap is toxic to them. So I may have two spring bouquets inside soon, one of the sweet nodding daffs, and one of the tulips.
Such beauty here, and such a frightening and strange situation in Ukraine! I have felt unsure of Russia for a long while, and also of China. But I was surprised to see how suddenly we all are facing the possibility of an actual World War III. So, my friends, I am praying for us all, and wish for each of you a safe little life! I do not understand dictators and land-grabbers! Why don't they choose happiness instead of a vain attempt at earthly power? Kind regards,
Olde Dame Holly
To Ukraine! She will prevail!
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh about your title. The other night a friend was over and she said "oh tulips!!" I had forgotten I had a little bouquet of tulips I had picked up at the store and all I heard was "two lips" LOL. DUH. Stay warm and safe sweet Holly. ~Robin~
ReplyDeleteA bouquet or dome the flowers, if possible, from the bad weather.
ReplyDeleteThe worse is yet to happen. Instead of a new horrid variant surge, there is a war that threatens all of us. Prayers
Your tulips and daffodil are so pretty. I had to laugh at your title also.
ReplyDeleteThe weather has been up and down here just like the world.
May peace reign in our hearts and in the world.
Hugs,
Julia
How unfortunate that your weather has turned cold and windy, threatening your lovely tulips. I hope you're doing okay and finding joy in your days in spite of world news ( which I'm forced to not watch or my peace of mind goes out the window).
ReplyDeleteOh how lovely to be able to grow tulips and daffodils there! They will not grow here in Florida, so we can only enjoy the ones we buy at the supermarket, which don't last very long. Oh, isn't spring a bit flighty? One day she's hot, the next day she's cold, one day she's windy and boisterous, the next day as calm as a new born babe in a cradle...such a vixen she is! We never know what to expect from day to day! We have had temps in the 80's this past week and very sunny and dry. But now it looks like we will have rain every day this week, for which I am very thankful as our pond is getting rather dry. Oh, yes, I totally agree with you regarding the Ukraine/Russia conflict. Praying daily for God to intervene and stop this before it gets to WWIII. Please take care and may God bless you and keep you strong. Thank you for your sweet comments on Lily Grace's page as well as my previous posts. I'm a little tardy in replying. (((hugs)))
ReplyDeletewe are suffering record breaking heat for March, 87 to 89 for the past few days. compared to WWIII it is not that bad. sorry about your Two Lips being ripped apart. I say take them in the house and enjoy. I wonder if they would live if you dug up and put in pots and brought in until the cold was gone..
ReplyDeleteSorry about your cold tulips. One year I puit my houseplants out the first of May and we had a freak snow storm. ALL my houseplants died. I had a fortune tied up in them. No more will I do that! Your daff and your tulips are truly lovely. I hope you don't lose too many to a bouquet (grin).
ReplyDeleteSadly, we don't think like Putin, Holly, so it is hard to understand his reasoning. I know he wants to reunite the old Russia or USSR, and Ukraine is needed for that.
Your last question is a good one, Holly, and one that I often wonder too. Your tulips and daffodils are so pretty, and you know, tulips are one of my favorites. I love that red one. This is a terrible time right now, and I'm saddened by what's happening. But God is taking care of His world, this I know.
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed week, dear Holly.

I agree with you on every word you posted regarding wars/Ukraine/Russia and the all out quest for power.
ReplyDeleteThe flowers brightened my day!!!
Yes on pins and needles we dont have another war. Feel for the people of Ukraine. Something needs to be done to help them. We must have had the same winds you did. Then the ice and snow came in as well. The only difference is we do not have any Spring flowers blooming yet. Janice
ReplyDeleteI have never heard that daffs should not share a vase with others. You are just so informative.
ReplyDeleteUkraine...my heart breaks for the people. And I am terrified of what may be in our future. We cannot trust Russia nor China and our leaders need to lead, not go begging our enemies for oil. Let's buy oil from Iran to help fund their nuclear desires. WTH??? Wake up Washington.
Just came back to see your red tulip. Sooooo pretty. Have a sweet day, dear friend.

Wow! What gorgeous colours! The weather is certainly fickle this time of year isn't it. I'm watching and hoping for lilac blooms this year - last 2 years very few as it was so dry for so long.
ReplyDeleteDear Holly, I think Putin longs for the past--not that of Communism but that of Peter the Great. He sees himself in those terms. Let us hope for peace in our times for all everywhere.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the Spring thoughts.
Happy Lent to you, I am doing a study by Bishop Barron.
Love, Carla
I just came back from Dubai desert 40C a few now I find Spring flowers blooming.I like spring colours.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's impossible to understand evil powers who want to destroy and grab territory. I guess it would be a bad sign if we could understand them! Praying for the innocents. Seeing signs of spring even way up north, but still a possibility of more snow. (I can guarantee it, lol.)
ReplyDeleteThe title of your post had be questioning, "did she make a mistake?" Then all of a sudden I got it . . . and had a good laugh . . . you're a clever gal :)
